In a commentary, SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan shared his views on the opening of the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC), located in the financial district. He noted that the opening of the SCCC, established by the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, marks another milestone in Singapore’s multiracialism, adding that Chinese Singaporeans can also manifest their identity and culture without being perceived to be exclusive or domineering.Comparing the SCCC to the Chinese Cultural Centre (CCC), established by China’s government during China’s President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Singapore in November 2015, Associate Prof Tan said although Singapore and China share a common cultural heritage, the culture and identity of both countries will continue to develop differently. He emphasised that the SCCC and CCC can help both countries cultivate a deeper respect and richer appreciation of each other’s arts and culture. 2017-05-01T07:00:00Z text application/pdf https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/sol_research/3849 https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/context/sol_research/article/5807/viewcontent/Today_20170519_1.pdf http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law eng Institutional Knowledge at Singapore Management University Asian Studies Sociology of Culture
