It contains a number of Africa-specific and innovative features, which presumably makes it today a unique legal instrument. The PAIC presents an African consensus on the shaping of international investment law and has, since its adoption, influenced subsequent African investmentlaw making. Moreover, the PAIC is serving as the main basis for the negotiations on the Investment Protocol to the Agreement establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
