sg-smu-ink.soss_research-23052020-12-17T01:07:26Z Human Mating JONASON, Peter K. Valentine, Katherine A. LI, Norman P. Theories and empirical findings of human mating are addressed in this article. Because of differential parental investment, men generally prefer short-term mating and women generally prefer long-term mating, and therefore must negotiate between their differential ideals. Booty-calls, friends-with-benefits, and consensual nonmonogamy are presented as compromises between male and female relationship type ideals. Sexual conflict in the form of infidelity, jealousy, sexual harassment, and rape occur when there is a break-down in negotiations. The adaptive reasons behind these behaviors and preferences are explored. 2012-01-01T08:00:00Z text application/pdf https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/soss_research/1049 info:doi/10.1016/B978-0-12-375000-6.00195-6 https://ink.library.smu.edu.sg/context/soss_research/article/2305/viewcontent/Human_Mating_av.pdf http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ Research Collection School of Social Sciences eng Institutional Knowledge at Singapore Management University Evolutionary psychology Hybrid relationships Long-term mating Mating Monogamy Physical attractiveness Polygamy Rape Romantic relationships Sex differences Sexual conflict Sexual harassment Short-term mating Social status Gender and Sexuality Social Psychology |
