Summary: | In this study wastewater from Saa Paper Industry were experimentally treated by up-flow anaerobic filter (UAF) at variable hydraulic detention time in order to investigate the COD removal efficiency and the gas production rate. The UAF reactors were made of PVC pipe with in side diameter of 20 cm, 200 cm in height white the bed volume of 58.4 liter, and filled with polyethylene media. The initial COD concentrations of wastewater was in rang 2505 - 4878 mg/L. HRTs were controlled at 8,18,24,30,and 36hrs,with equal to the organic loading rate 10.66, 4.74, 3.55, 2.84 and 2.37 kgCOD/m3.day, respectively. The finding show that the COD removal efficiency of the system was 67.59%, 65.61%, 65.47%, 49.60%, and 47.49% for the organic loading rate 10.66, 4.74, 3.55, 2.84 and 2.37 kgCOD/m3.day, respectively. In addition the gas production rate was 127, 161,152,and 127 L/day for the organic loading rate 10.66, 4.74, 3.55, 2.84 and 2.37 kgCOD/m3.day, respectively. Furthermore, the COD removal was almost completely degraded at 30 cm in height from the bottom of the UAF reactor. Moreover, the statistical model developed which can be expressed as Se = 0.037Si1.46hrt-0.418. The developed model was also validated. |
