Summary: | This study aims to examine the images of Lanna women in contemporary Lanna songs during 1993 to 2013, which are sung by six female singers. They include: 1. Nipaporn Pangouan ( Kratae R Siam), 2. Thunyaporn Uttathamchai (Kamla Thunyaporn), 3. Daranee Akareun (Too Daranee), 4. Lanna Commin, 5. Teeraporn Srikitrat (Aom Maimeung), and 6. Maneerat Rettanung (Aom Rattanung).
The results revealed that the songs were selected with the numbers of 72 songs. The outstanding images found in 20 songs were Lanna female women, who love , have pride of their own communities, honor value, culture, and Lanna tradition. There were 19 songs reflected the images of women with binding love. The song reflected the female images as the decisive females being on themselves showed in 7 songs. The images of being responsible for their families are found in 4 songs. The last image of females with a sense of moral and ethics showed in 3 songs.
Most of the songs had more content reflected on mood or needs in imagination than the realistic of society. Some songs is the discourse in persuading the listeners to love and be proud of community, honor culture, and attract the other people in different places for the benefits of tourism. Some songs are the emotional response to the music, especially some emotion which could not show in the real world such as love confessions, lament or even the fierce emotion such as curses, abuse with rude words.
The overall content of the songs repeated the traditional female images knowing in the society as being sweet with beautiful words. However, the content also create the new images such as assertiveness in the public places through opened thoughts and feelings.
In case of the dynamic of Lanna females, it revealed that this study shows the change of Lanna female images which differs from the previous time. In the past, they are viewed as not being desired images, while the ideal images are desired like having thoughts, being respectful, having love and pride on the local culture. However, the limitations are only Lanna songs so that it could not conclude that these are all the images of the females in this period of time. |
