Summary:The study “Leadership of Mr. Kayan Wipromchai, Mayor of Umong Municipality, Mueang Lamphun District” aimed to investigate the leadership of Mr. Kayan Wipromchai, the Mayor of Umong Municipality, Mueang Lamphun District, his motivations in working in politics, and his behaviors and strategies in working in politics which helped him maintain his Mayor position for a long period of time. The data collection methods were a questionnaire and an interview. The samples were 32 community leaders, heads of communities, municipality officials, Umong municipality members, political competitors, and headmen in Umong municipality. The data was statistically analyzed and described. The data revealed that the people evaluated the leadership of Mr. Kayan Wipromchai at a high level. The first highest aspect was he is a person who knows the responsibilities of a mayor. The second aspect includes he can communicate and persuade others to work for him willingly, he has good human relations, and he has visions and creativity in work. Finally, he is ready to lead others. In terms of his motivation to become the mayor, Mr. Kayan Wipromchai received the confidence and trust from many people in the community. Thus, he has been supported by the people to become a mayor candidate many times. Furthermore, since Mr. Kayan Wipromchai wanted to see the continuous and sustain development of the community, he wanted to prove himself without expecting any rewards. For Mr. Kayan Wipromchai’s outstanding behaviors and strategies in the election campaign, which were the main factor helping him to maintain his Mayor position for a long period of time, included his determination to work for the locals without expecting any rewards, being a community developer who has access to all groups of people which has allowed him to know the problems and needs of the community, and his works have focused on the participation of the locals. In addition, having worked in politics at provincial and national levels, Mr. Kayan Wipromchai could apply his experience in managing the organizations and his team members. Consequently, the teams have become very strong and the administration has been well decentralized.
