High-purity CaO 2 with nanosized spherical particle was observed. Disinfection effect of the CaO 2 powders was investigated using Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). Surprisingly, photoactivity of CaO 2 was discovered. The CaO 2 exhibited intriguing photoactivity on dye oxidation and reduction under visible light.
