Description
Summary:The purpose of this study was to develop the information system for inventory management of Squareintertrade Limited Partnership based on the concepts of system development. Data were collected through system users' interviews, business owner and staffs. The study showed that the business had a simple organization structure. There was no specific duty and responsibility officially assigned to the staffs. The managing director had the most important role on decision making and business policy setting. The results from the success factor analysis found out that the success factors for the business were reported as following: 1) the efficiency of the inventory management 2) building up the customers' satisfaction to use the service 3) having a close relationship with suppliers, and 4) having technicians with expertise in the installation of vinyl floor tile. From work process analysis, the current work process could be categorized in four sub-processes, which were merchandise purchasing and inventory management, sale and customer record systems, installation and service, and accounting and financing. The current work process categories had created the overlapping work. Documenting data into the system manually in each working system resulted in false input, lose of data records, and delayed of information searching. The inventory control system implemented within the company was developed using Windows 7. MySQL was applied to monitor the database. PHP was used to create the web application. The working process was re-designed and adjusted into six sub-processes, which were merchandise purchasing system, sale system, inventory management system, supplier record system, customer record system, and product record system. The database system was created. This new working system fostered precision and efficiency in recording and processing the data. Final report from this improved system would be more useful and user-friendly, not only for staffs in each division to follow, but also for the better decision making of the owner. The installation system was a direct cutover strategy. The system test was divided into two parts which were developer testing and user testing. After improvement and complete installation, the new information system can respond to the users' needs. As a result, rapid and accurate work was successfully achieved.
