Summary: | Father involvement during the postpartum period is very important for the physical and psychological health of parents and child. The purpose of this descriptive correlational research study was to explore marital relationship, father–infant attachment and father involvement in the postpartum period. The subjects were 102 fathers of children aged 6-8 weeks. Data were collected at Chiang Mai Health Promotion Hospital during June to August, 2014. The research instruments used were the Marital Relationship Questionnaire by Patcharin Raojutitham (2006), the Father-infant Attachment Questionnaire which was modified from that of Yaowalak Chaekuntode (1996) and Father Involvement During Postpartum Period Questionnaire developed by Supakorn Chaina and Nantaporn Sansiriphun (Chaina, 2013). Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, and Spearman’s Rank Correlation.
Results of the study revealed that:
There was statistically significant high positive correlation between marital relationship and father involvement (r = .58, p < .01), and also between father–infant attachment and father involvement during postpartum period (r = .51, p < .01).
The findings from this study can be used as baseline data to plan for nursing intervention to promote father’s involvement in the postpartum period. |
