This study provided significant information on ethnopharmacology and phytochemical constituent groups of 14 medicinal plants found in the Huai Hong Krai Royal Development Study Centre, Doi Saket, Chiang Mai, Thailand. Five local villager experts were interviewed for the ethnobotanical information. Plant parts (16 samples) were extracted by sequential maceration with ethyl acetate, dichloromethane and methanol respectively. All extracts were then qualitatively examined for alkaloid, terpenoid, phenolic and saponin constituents. The results revealed that plants were used for treatments of various aliments including fever, inflammation and as food supplements. Alkaloid was detected in limited amount from the dichloromethane and ethanol extracts of plants known for antipyretic property such as Andrographis paniculata Nees. Terpenoid was found in all extracts from most plants with high amounts were in Pueraria candollei Wall. ex Benth. var. mirifica and Murraya siamensis Craib. Methanol and dichloromethane extracts of all tested plants contained phenolics. Saponin was also detected in Stachytarpheta jamaicensis (L.) Vahl and Litsea glutinosa (Lour.) C.B.Rob. from the same extracts. These data are very useful for the conservation and protection of traditional medicinal plants in Huai Hong Krai and the North of Thailand.
