Six topics are described in this Injury Supplement, including influencing factors and mechanisms, co-morbidities, biological responses, diagnosis and treatment of closed soft-tissue injury, compartment syndrome and gunshot wounds. Since one of the current AO principles emphasises respect for soft tissue when performing open reduction and internal fixation, this article further discusses the pathophysiology of soft-tissue injury and the specific concerns in treating compartment syndrome and gunshot injury. Understanding the basic and updated principles of soft-tissue management will be beneficial for the clinical practice of orthopaedic trauma surgeons. © 2008. 2018-09-10T03:45:49Z 2018-09-10T03:45:49Z 2008-10-01 Journal 00201383 2-s2.0-51649112909 10.1016/j.injury.2008.08.027 https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?partnerID=HzOxMe3b&scp=51649112909&origin=inward http://cmuir.cmu.ac.th/jspui/handle/6653943832/60591
