All rights reserved. Agriculture is one of the most important primary industries in the world. Especially Asia is one of the most likely regions to be qualified as the Food Giant for safe food production and supply to cover and negotiate the upcoming global food issue considering the rapidly increasing human population at the rate of 80-100 million per year. One of the necessary conditions and requirements that must be seen as a top priority of food powerhouse, is to supply quality controlled food. In the 1980s “agrimation” was used as an abbreviated expression of “agricultural mechanization and automation”. Food safety must be secured with the first priority for Asia to be qualified as the world Food Giant, even though Asia has a higher potentiality already especially in primary production. Postharvest technology is more needed to secure the food safety. The author believes that AEC (Asian Economic Community) should play an important role to make Asia brand of food from this point of view. Agrimation should be actively promoted to achieve the enhancing of food safety. In this paper the mechanization and automation technologies are historically reviewed and the state of the art is overviewed.
