Seasonal effect of Nosema ceranae in honeybee from Northern Thailand estimated by Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP)

© Rushing Water Publishers Ltd. 2019. Nosema ceranae is a fungal pathogen in the phylum Microsporidia which causes nosema disease or nosemosis in honeybees and it may cause colony collapse disorder in honeybee apiaries. In this study, samples of honeybees from 234 apiaries were collected in northern...

Nosema ceranae is a fungal pathogen in the phylum Microsporidia which causes nosema disease or nosemosis in honeybees and it may cause colony collapse disorder in honeybee apiaries. In this study, samples of honeybees from 234 apiaries were collected in northern Thailand during the summer, rainy and winter seasons. The detection was accomplished by loop-mediated isothermal amplification or LAMP. From the study, the infection peak of N. ceranae (76.92%) occurred during the winter season. Although, the infection had already occurred in the honeybees there were no visible signs or symptoms during the survey period. So, the beekeepers pay no attention to this pathogen until severe symptoms occur when it is too late for management. LAMP was demonstrated to be a more effective detection technique for N. ceranae than microscopic examination. 2019-08-05T04:31:49Z 2019-08-05T04:31:49Z 2019-01-01 Journal 01173375 2-s2.0-85066759306 https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?partnerID=HzOxMe3b&scp=85066759306&origin=inward http://cmuir.cmu.ac.th/jspui/handle/6653943832/65324
