Summary: | The purpose of this study was to investigate the behavior and factors affecting savings in order to prepare for retirement of people in Mueang municipality, Chiang Mai province. The study focused on the groups of people with regular and irregular incomes (200 people per group), aged between 40-60 years, living in Mueang municipality, Chiang Mai province. Questionnaires were used to collect the data.
The study found that most of the samples earning regular and irregular incomes were female, aged between 40-45 years, with an average income of 30,961.92 and 26,435.05 baht per month, respectively. They had debt per income of 81.50 and 77.50 percent, respectively. Major debts were car leasing and credit card.
Results from studying savings behavior showed that the groups with regular income had source of savings from salaries while the groups with irregular income had source of savings from investments. Savings ratio was at one to five percent, and savings method used was to reduce expenses first and save later.
The groups with regular income mostly had their savings with banks. Most of them had their savings with Krung Thai bank, and the factor affecting the savings most was to keep savings in times of illness. This was followed by having their savings with a life insurance company, and the factor affecting the savings was to compensate in times of illness. For groups with irregular income, they mostly had their savings with banks. Most of them had their savings with Krung Thai bank, and the factor affecting the savings most was to save for their children. This was followed by having their savings with a life insurance company, and the important factor was to receive fund on due date. |
