The study was conducted among 79 agricultural families who already planted their crops by agroforestry system to conserve soil and water and 86 agricultural families who did not employ the system in Huay Hom Sub-District, Mae La noi District, Mae Hong Son Province. The study tools for collecting data was interview form and the study data was analyzed by statistical analysis which included frequency, percentage, means, maximum, minimum, standard deviation and Chi-square. The study revealed that most of the agriculturists who planted their crops with the agroforestry system were between 41-50 years of age, graduated Prathomsuksa 6, had 4-6 family members, earned 25001-50000 baht and owned 6-10 rai of agricultural areas. For instance, those who had their own land owned 6-10 rai and those who leased the land for planting occupied 1-5 rai. Most of them did paddy farming and planted their crops with agroforestry system for 1-5 years. Apart from the above group, the agriculturists who had never planted their crops with agroforestry system were 31-40 years of age, graduated with Mattayomsuksa, had 4-6 family members, earned 25001-50000 Baht and occupied 1-5 rai. In addition, those who had their own land owned 1-5 rai and those who leased the land for planting occupied 1-5 rai. The others who occupied other areas (public) had 1-5 rai of paddy farming. The agriculturists’ opinion towards planting in agroforestry system for soil and water conservation included that they agreed with the support on this system with the means in high level, so did those who had never planted their crops with this system. For the knowledge and understanding of the agriculturists in the system, most of them had high level of knowledge, 89.9 percent, and for those who had never employed the system, most of them also had high level of knowledge on this system, 91.9 percent. The relationship between personal nature, economic and social natures, knowledge and understanding, and agriculturists’ opinion on the support of planting with agroforestry system to conserve soil and water revealed that the factors, which were related at the significant level 0.05, of the agriculturists who planted their crops with agroforestry system were that knowledge and understanding was related to the support on planting in agroforestry system to conserve soil and water, natural resources and forest recovery and awareness creation. For the educational level and the number of family member, both were related with the support on agroforestry system for water conservation and awareness creation. For the study of the agriculturists who had never employed the system, it consisted of soil conservation was related to their average income of the previous year, and their knowledge and understanding. In addition, creating awareness was related to their knowledge and understanding. The difficulties of the study was found that local language was used to communicate and the agriculturists did not understand Thai language well enough and the study areas were remote. For the next study, there should be building the understanding of the agriculturists who could communicate Thai language in order to communicate and make them understand the support of agroforestry system to conserve soil and water.
