Study results discovered that first of all, political concepts that appeared in the novel can be characterized as being edged towards Marxist concepts by displaying that control of the novel’s story progression was multilayered and intensive. The author approached the themes from various aspects that were compiled by taking the basics of ancient Greek and Roman tales and mythologies as well as using the basic ideas of social criticism in dystopian novels, and the themes were gently developed and elaborated upon with by using srelationships of economical structures in Panem through to the complicated relationships between consumers and the manufacturing workers, differences in class and questioning of wealth, variety in culinary cultures, and the government’s use of food as a direct mechanic to maintain control of Panem’s social structure by virtue of ruling over the twisted social structure in Panem. As the novel is highly detailed and its theme preserved with complicated story progression according to dystopian concepts or looking at it from a dystopic viewpoint, can be considered to be a realist way of looking at the world. Regarding the next point, if we look at the context from the author’s side, we will discover that Susan Collins wishes to point out that dystopian novels were written to criticize and satirize world society. This novel often explains the future world as a dark age and future that is hopeless and dark, which caused her to wish to explain that if humans in the present are already committing immoral acts, it is possible that our future will be that of a dark age. This can be seen in the Hunger Games, where Susan Collins explains about the future world as a land filled with sadness and oppression, of which the cause is none other than humans themselves, and this novel was written to point out this out for readers to think and read novels wisely. Furthermore, the Hunger Games is not just a regular novel for entertainment, but a novel with inserted political implications that criticizes society in itself, and these two attributes are important for the Hunger Games’s differences from other novels. 2020-07-28T02:46:53Z 2020-07-28T02:46:53Z 2015-09 Independent Study (IS) http://cmuir.cmu.ac.th/jspui/handle/6653943832/69142 th เชียงใหม่ : บัณฑิตวิทยาลัย มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ |
