Summary: | Rescue volunteers are at risk of exposure to blood and body fluids which consequently increases their risk of infection. Therefore, rescue volunteers should be knowledgeable about and practice infection prevention to reduce such risks. This developmental research study aimed to develop and to evaluate the efficiency of an infection prevention electronic book (e-book) for rescue volunteers. The study was conducted during July - September 2014. Participants were rescue volunteers from rescue units in Nam Phong district, Khon Kaen Province. Forty-two rescue volunteers were chosen by simple random sampling. The research instruments, which were developed by the researcher, included pre- and post-test knowledge assessments and satisfaction questionnaire. These instruments were validated by an expert panel and the content validity index was .98, .92, and 1.0, respectively. The reliability of the knowledge tests was assessed using parallel forms, scoring .72. The efficiency of the e-book was tested through individual and small group use, and by field test. Data was analyzed using description statistic and answer grouping.
The results showed that e-book efficiency was 80.6/86.9. The average time participants spent learning from the e-book was 80 minutes. The subjects were highly satisfied with the content, design, user menu, and usefulness of the e-book.
Study findings suggest that this infection prevention e-book can be used as a way to broaden the knowledge of rescue volunteers and thus improve their practices of infection prevention. |
