Summary:This research was aimed to 1) study about basic personal characteristics, economic conditions and society of agricultural extension officers, 2) study about the training needs to develop the potential of agricultural extension officers, 3) comparative analysis in training needs of agricultural extension officers in the upper northern region with different basic personal characteristics, economic and social conditions. and 4) study about suggestions for training management. The population used in this research has 2 groups, 1) 215 agricultural extension officers in operational level at upper northern provinces, the formula of Taro Yamane used to determine the size of the sample being studied with 0.05 acceptable levels of tolerance, take random by simple random sampling, which resulted of 140 agricultural extension officers for sample to conducting this study. 2) 8 provincial administrators of agricultural offices in the upper north region. Data were collected by using in-depth interview for executive level about training management suggestions, and used questionnaires for operational level. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics include frequency, percentage, mean, maximum, minimum and standard deviation. t-test and F-test within Scheffe’ Test was used to the hypothesis. The study indicated that most of them were female (60%), average age 32.59 years, 70.7% graduated with a bachelor's degree of Science in Plant, 70.7% work at affiliated of the District Agriculture office, and average work is 2.36 years. Average responsible 1,529.25 farm households per 1 official average salary of 17,557.07 THB, and debt more than 50,001 THB. From this study, agricultural extension officials had highest level need in training for working knowledge (x̅= 4.23). highest level in working skill training (x̅= 4.29). and high level in working attitude training (x̅= 4.17). In overall, agricultural extension officers need training at the highest level (x̅= 4.24). The hypothesis test found that agricultural extension officers with different gender had three different job skills training needs, 1) English for Basic/Advance Communication 2) Using Corel Video Studio Pro X10 for agricultural promotion media and 3) Using QGIS for making map. Agricultural extension officers with different age had one different work attitude training needs, the thinking adjustment as a good agricultural promoter. Agricultural extension officers with different graduation had two different working knowledge training needs. 1) Important economic crop production of the upper northern region 2) Techniques for visiting farmers. And they had one different work attitude training needs, how to be a good officer. Agricultural extension officers with different work group had one different working knowledge training needs, the knowledge of plant protection with statistical significance (p<0.05). However, the officers who had difference salary and education faculties are not difference in training needs for potential development. As for the suggestions of training management, the training programs of agricultural extension officers should focus on the competency program to builds the capability of agricultural extension officers as the Department of Agricultural Extension specified, and emphasizes practical training courses that could be practiced. The training programs should have speakers who have communicate techniques for easy understanding and expertise in the training. There should have both internal and external speakers of the Department of Agricultural Extension together. Training programs should be arranged about 3 times / year. However, the suitable month for the training programs is during May, October, November cause of there are not too much workload in the area.
