Summary:This descriptive research aimed to study the self-efficacy of opioid-dependent patients retention in Methadone maintenance treatmentat Fahmai Clinic, Thanyarak Chiang Mai Hospital. The data was conducted by qualitative research between May 2020 and June 2020 by using semistructured interview. The sample group was 21 opioid-dependent individuals who received Methadone maintenance treatment program using the purposive sampling approach. The data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, and content analysis including classification and an issue summary. The results indicated that the majority of samples were male 95.24 percent with an average age of 37.42 years, living in Chiang Mai 95.24 percent, Married 61.90 percent. Primary education 28.55 percent and average monthly income for the sample was 15,571.43 baht per month; the average duration of substance use was 8.52 years; the persistence in Methadone maintenance treatment was 18.95 months on average. Opioid-dependent patients began using low-intensity substance abuse, such as cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, and marijuana. Over extended period of time, their body become tolerant of drugs resistance ; thus, they switched to opioids instead. The study also found that patients were obtained for opioids addiction when the age of twenty-two years old and lived in rural areas. The major opium addiction causes include 1) being influenced by intimate peoples 2) the usage of opioids formedical remedies and 3) use of addictive substances for stress relieving. The self-efficacy results showed that 1) the use of the master experiences on retention maintenance treatment in long-term opioid-dependent patients by using Methadone maintenance treatment was more endurance to begin the treatment 2) modeling for retention maintenance treatment from intimate people of the long-term opioids dependent patients using Methadone maintenance treatment such as spouses, fathers and friends3) the use of Verbal Persuasion by their families of addiction treatment group, such as their spouses, children, relatives, and intimate friends, which is the most the important thing for opioid-dependent patients to obtain long-term treatment4) the negative emotional arousal by witnessing the consequences of drug use from others, madcap or death from an overdose of opioids, as the consequences of opium addiction reminded them to breakthrough their habits and eventually completed the rehabilitation process. Therefore, it can be Stimulused patients not to repeat drug addiction and still retention treatment. The persistence in Methadone maintenance treatment of opioid-dependent patients, family involvement is the first priority. Hence, services should be increased the understanding of family services, it will help the treatment development between families and service providers, which positively impacts the long-term retention of opioid-dependent patients by using Methadone maintenance treatment.
