Description
Summary:PODD surveillance system is a community-based disease surveillance tool including PODD application and data dashboard. The system operation is driven by volunteers who use the application to report usual events sent to responsible sectors, and by local administrative organizations (LAOs) that act as the system administrator and response unit collaborating with other support sectors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of PODD surveillance system both in quantitative and qualitative aspects. 366 users of 30 LAOs that used PODD surveillance system in Chiang Mai province were asked using structure interview and 120 participants of these were randomly selected for in-depth interview. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and qualitative analysis for quantitative and qualitative data respectively. Eighty percent of chief executives and volunteers gave precedence to and were interested in PODD system since the obtained community benefits and good representativeness of animal disease outbreak surveillance, for instance. The PODD system was accepted to be a useful tool applied in community by interviewed volunteers, and obviously useful system as a new innovation by administrative users. The flexibility and stability of PODD surveillance in community were depended on chief executive attention, however the volunteers still use the application continually. From the findings, limitations of this system can be inferred that PODD surveillance system have to develop and improve for better efficiency affecting to community benefit and used as the model for other areas in the future.
