A study of the technique to design of a high gain microstrip antenna (MSA) using a thin wire metamaterial structure with a dielectric sheet is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna consists of a microstrip rectangular patch with slotted inset-line antenna, operates at the frequency of 9.37 - 9.43 GHz supported for radar applications, and a thin wire metamaterial, which functions as a resonant circuit placed in the front of a MSA to improve the antenna gain. Moreover, we describe the design procedures by adding a dielectric sheet between a metamaterial structure and a MSA for the reduction of the distance. Such this proposed technique not only has the advantage of increasing the antenna gain, but also providing a low profile structure. From our study, designed simulation and measurement, we found that the fabricated proposed antenna can achieve 8.59 dB of gain or higher than the gain, which is obtained using a basic MSA at around 6.82 dB at an operating frequency of 9.4 GHz. Besides, the experimental results are in accord with the simulated results. 2020-10-14T08:30:15Z 2020-10-14T08:30:15Z 2020-06-01 Conference Proceeding 2-s2.0-85091841731 10.1109/ECTI-CON49241.2020.9158217 https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?partnerID=HzOxMe3b&scp=85091841731&origin=inward http://cmuir.cmu.ac.th/jspui/handle/6653943832/70426
