Summary:This article concerns the Festival of Christmas in France. Christmas is crucial to the French not only as a religious ritual but also as a special social custom in the people's way of life. There are two parts to the article. The first part provides an overview of anthropological concepts with respect to religion, belief, and ritual. The second part addresses different aspects of Christmas in France starting from the preparation for the festival to formalities and other activities including home decoration, festive food, and church services. From the article, it is revealed that the Festival of Christmas, which was once an important festival for Christians, has now become a festival of happiness for all French people regardless of their religion.
