Description
Summary:Graphic representations are widely used in various computer applications. Good quality graphics may require much storage space therefore several compression techniques have been proposed. Fractal image compression is a technique based on the concept of the self-similarity property of images, which offers a high compression ratio but consumes a lot of processing time. This research employs fuzzy logic with a traditional fractal image compression technique in order to reduce compression time. The proposed algorithm used fuzzy logic in two stages, (1) fuzzy classification homogeneity property of blocks, and (2) fuzzy identification similarity of domain and range blocks. Experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm yields a promising result. The efficiency of this algorithm was compared to Fisher's method. It proved to have a faster encoding time while the compression ratio and the quality of the reconstruction image did not differ from Fisher's algorithm.
