Summary: | In order to improve color and chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal in molasses wastewater, chemical and biological methods were combined. Advance oxidation techniques, Fenton's reagent oxidation and ozonation, were used for pretreatment of molasses pigment solution before Chlorella saccharophila and Chlorella vulgaris cultivation. Fenton's reagent at 1:1 ratio (Fe : H2O2) was able to remove 36% and both microalgae could further remove another 30-33% of the color. Total color removal efficiency was therefore between 66 and 69%. Ozonation could removed 72% of the color after 6 hours, after which both microalgae could not further remove color and COD. |
