Summary:Background: The medical device industry needs to be sustainable and should consider the safest, trusted quality and accessibility for use when they are required for patient diagnostic procedures. This study is conducted to identify the factors influencing sustainable development of medical devices. Methods: The analytical hierarchy process (AHP) is being adopted to prioritize the influencing factors. Based on the classified criteria, the alternative factors are evaluated and compared with each other using AHP to make an optimal selection. Results: The findings show that there are six main factors and seventeen sub-factors in this study that can support the development of sustainable medical devices. This study provides useful information for the medical device supplier to improve their current and future product design toward sustainable medical device development. Conclusions: This study adds to the understanding of sustainable medical device development and its consequences on the intention to use from the consumer's perspective.
