Summary: | Nutmeg mace (Myristica fragrans. Houtt) is has been used traditionally as aphrodisiac. The present study was aimed to confirm nutmeg mace's effect on the sexual behavior in animal model. Male rats were given single and repeated dose of extract orally (25, 50, 100 mg/kg bb) and their sexual behavior were observed on the first and seventh days. The mounting frequency, intromission frequency, mounting duration and intromission duration were observed and compared with sildenafil citrate as a standard drug. After given nutmeg mace extract 50 mg/kg dose daily for seven days, the mounting frequency, intromission frequency, mounting duration and intromission duration increased. The present results suggested that nutmeg mace increases sexual interest of male rats toward the female. <br />
