Armored Wheeled Vehicle Design for Cavalry Unit of Indonesian Army

Armored wheeled vehicle as part of Alutsista or weaponry system is a product for specified military users. Armored Personnel Carrier VAB from France was used differently between France Army and Indonesian Army according to the different perspective of it's doctrine in defense. Indonesia had along history of adopting defense doctrine of overall defense that includes people as fundamental element of national force.<p>This discussion started from armored wheeled vehicle and the connection of it with weaponry system of Indonesia, a country with low self sufficiency in production of weaponry. This discussion revealed the reason for a specially designed armored vehicle for Cavalry unit in Indonesia Army in this case using VAB that was also used as basic design for Panser Pindad as study case. The continuation of production of KFK unit in PT Pindad Persero as one of provider in weaponry for the army is discussed with the brief history and it's involvement in the history of Indonesia defense industry capability building.<p>Deeper discussion of armored vehicle that had been used and history of cavalry unit in Indonesian Army give way main reasons for differences in VAB utilization. Hierarchy, seat and seating position, communication barrier in VAB due to lay out of it engine room and limited protection capabilities in this vehicle especially in windows were put into design consideration. The adjustment of usage in order for VAB armored vehicle can be used in Indonesian Army cavalry division, also mentioned with reference from local source.<p>The closing of this discussion is the recommendations for anticipation for design problems of Indonesian armored vehicle in the future. Recommendations are broken down such as fulfillment of need for seating arrangement in line up and opposing for personnel room, room for 3 crew member (commander, driver and gunner), openness in crew room for better interaction between them, rear main door for personnel exit-entrance procedure and improvement in protection. <br />
