Summary: | Cinchona tree is the one of plant which consist several alkaloids component. Quinine, the major component of cinchona alkaloids, is obtained from the bark of several species of the cinchona tree. Quinine has been used as the primary treatment of malaria and, in softdrink industry as bitter taste and tonicum. Chemical transformation of cinchona alkaloids has been investigated since the role of quinine derivatives in modern assymmetric synthesis. In this work, acetyl quinine and benzoyl quinine have been successfully synthesized by iodinecatalyzed esterification. Both products were charactherized by UV, IR, and NMR spectroscopies. Acetyl quinine and benzoyl quinine show the activities againts murine leukemia P388 cell with IC50 = 45,0 ug/mL and IC50 = 15,5 ug/mL, respectively. <br />
