THE DEVELOPMENT OF PRODUCT MATERIAL IN GREEN SEA-SHELL RESIDUE (CASE OF STUDY: KENJERAN SEA-SHELL INDUSTRY, SURABAYA)

Sea-shell is often used as a material for handicraft. The use of non breeding sea-shell can cause an exploitation of sea ecosystem which also can cause a threat for sea ecosystem persistence. This kind of non breeding sea-shell that used by middle-small sea-shell industry (IKM) especially sea-shell IKM in Kenjeran, Surabaya.<p>This research takes green sea-shell as an alternative of using material handicraft in sea-shell IKM environment. Green sea-shell (perna veridis) is one of the breeding sea-shell except its abound availability, also kind of residue material seafood industry and yet there is no solution for green sea-shell residue, especially for the handicraft material so far.<p>Research with practice approachment through material experiment and the process to find an alternative to develop product material of green sea-shell residue. The result of experiment is used to develop product material of green sea-shell residue as use-product with simple function, such as, lampshade, dish place, coat of surface furniture, etc. This research contain an experimentation process in green sea-shell which divide in many phase, that is, (a) process of shaping, (b) heating, (c) mixing and blending material, and (d) through colour and finishing the surface. The productivity concept of society, recommendation of producing green sea-shell and recommendation of producing green sea-shell and recommendation of product marketing is provided in this research. Completed with disemination plan and socializing a new design alternative, hopefully that it can give alternative answer to the problem which being faced by sea-shell IKM Kenjeran. <br /> <br />
