This study aimed to compare the antimicrobial activity of ethanol extract of black tea, green tea, and white tea against Streptococcus mutans, a dental-caries-caused bacterium. Antimicrobial activities of each extract were tested against Streptococcus mutans at density of 1.09 x 107 cfu/mL using agar diffusion method. The inhibitory diameter was measured after 24 hours of incubation. Student's t-test with P<0.05 was used to analyze the result. The average of inhibitory diameter of white tea extract generally was the highest compared to green tea and black tea. The inhibitory diameter of white tea extract was 1.2-1.4 times higher than green tea extract and was 1.3-1.5 times higher than black tea extract. 1000 mg/mL of white tea extract was equivalent with 129.28 ug/mL ampicillin trihydrate as reference antibiotic. text
