Summary: | Gandarusa leaves (Justicia gendarussa Burm.F. Acanthaceae) is cultivated plant and traditionally used as contraception for man. Flavonoid has anti spermatozoa activity. The goal of this research is to isolate a flavonoid from gandarusa leaves. Crude drug was extracted with reflux, the ethyl acetate extract was fractionated by vaccum liquid chromatography, purified by preparative thin layer chromatography, and characterized by specific spray reagent, ultraviolet-visible, and infrared spectrophotometry. Gandarusa leaves showed the presence of steroid/triterpenoid, alkaloid, saponin, and flavonoid compounds. Isolate R was supposed to be a flavonoid that has -OH, -CH aliphatic, -C=O, C=C, and aromatic groups. |
