Crude drug was extracted with reflux, the ethyl acetate extract was fractionated by vaccum liquid chromatography, purified by preparative thin layer chromatography, and characterized by specific spray reagent, ultraviolet-visible, and infrared spectrophotometry. Gandarusa leaves showed the presence of steroid/triterpenoid, alkaloid, saponin, and flavonoid compounds. Isolate R was supposed to be a flavonoid that has -OH, -CH aliphatic, -C=O, C=C, and aromatic groups. text
