Summary: | Water pollution by copper has been a common case. Monitoring the water pollution requires analysis method which is simple, sensitive, and has good detection limitation. Since the metal ion Cu(II) in the environment generally in trace level. One of ways to solve this problem is by using pre-concentration based on FIA technique. In this research, an analytical method using modified polistiren divinilbenzen resin with a-nitroso-B-naftol has been developed and evaluated. The modified resin has a retention capacity of 0.56 mg Cu(II)/g resin on pH 6.50 with minimum contact time of 11 minutes. The retention characteristics of resin has enabled to use it as mini column filling material for pre-concentration based on FIA. A 0.60 mL of 1 M nitric acid was capable to quantitatively elute of retained metal Cu(II). Analytical performance from the develop method is very well as shown by the detection limit of 1.68 ppb, with good linearity in concentration range 20–300 ppb. Application of developed method in water sample analysis results recovery by 97.24%. The result obtained shows that developed pre-concentration method can be used for trace analysis of copper in the environment. <br />
