Description
Summary:Analysis and minimization of input ripples of multiphase PWM inverters is proposed in this research. Analysis begins with deriving a general expression for the rms value of input current and voltage ripples of five-phase PWM inverters as a function of reference signal. Optimum reference signal that results in minimum input current and voltage ripple of five-phase inverters can be derived from this general expression. The analysis shows that the rms value of input current ripple is not influenced by the shape of the reference signal and switching frequency. At the same switching frequency, optimum reference modulating signal that produces a minimum input voltage ripple under sinusoidal load emf is pure sinusoidal modulating signal. It is also found that at the same switching losses, the discontinues PWM results a lower input voltage ripple when the modulation index is high. Experimental results are also presented to show the validity of the proposed analysis method.
