Description
Summary:a-Amylase is an enzyme which catalyzes the hydrolysis reaction of a-1,4 glycosidic bonds in starch molecule to dextrin and oligosaccharides. Nowadays, a-amylase is used in many applications, such as detergent, textile and paper industry, especially food industry. Food industry spends billions each year to produce the a-amylase, as a consequence, food price become more expensive. The goal of this research was to prepare poly(methyl methacrylate)-bentonite membranes, then the obtained membranes were used to concentrate crude extract of a-amylase. PMMA-bentonite membranes were prepared by mixing a commercial poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) polymer with bentonite clay in dimethyl formamide solvent, then followed by membrane casting by phase inversion. PMMA-bentonite membranes were made from PMMA as the organic materials and bentonite clay as the inorganic materials.
