Indonesia is included as the sixth biggest tea producer country. One of the virtue of tea, especially the leaf is capable of making us refresh. From the literature, Camellia sinensis contains flavonoid compounds, such as epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). The activity of EGCG is known 100 times more potential than vitamine C and 25 times than vitamine E. EGCG is also used as anti bacterial, anti inflammation, anti mutagenic, and anti carcinogenic. The purpose of this research is to isolate EGCG compounds and its expected to be used maximally in medical practices. In this research, EGCG has been isolated from tea leaf and the structure has been determined by using infra red spectroscopy, high performance liquid chromatohraphy (HPLC), 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR.

text
