Summary:National examination aims to test the competency of students. One of core competencies is reasoning. This research is based on the framework of thought developed by Lithner and colleagues. In this framework, the reasoning is grouped into two types based on students learning experience, namely Creative Reasoning and Imitative Reasoning. This study aims to determine the type of reasoning used by students in the matter of the Mathematics National Examination of SMP/MTs in accordance with Lithner grouping. Based on the results of this research, most of the UN matter is only require the imitative reasoning.
