ERP system which has been developed since late 1980s, has been adopted by companies from many industries all over the world, including Indonesia. While an ERP system offers many benefits for the companies adopting it, there are many companies troubled to the point of unsuccessful implementation so that they suffer great losses due to unreturned large sum of investment they need to make for ERP system. The failures of implementing ERP system also happen in companies in Indonesia.<p>An ERP system implementation success assessment model is used in this thesis to determine variables affecting the success of ERP system implementation. In the model, there are criteria used for measuring how success the implementation of ERP system in an organization. The model will be applied to a case study involving four companies that are selected to represent companies in Indonesia in general.<p>The model is originally used by a researcher in Finland. To ensure the model is valid and reliable to be used toward companies in Indonesia, a pilot case study is conducted prior to main case study. The pilot case study involves a company in Indonesia that is considered to be ideal in term of ERP system implementation. The data gathered in case study is in regard to data collection principles to build up strong and accurate data.<p>Cross-case analysis is utilized to find the key success factor(s) of ERP system implementation after all the data needed has been gathered. One or more patterns then can be found by combining variables from all of the companies to their success of implementing ERP system (pattern-matching method).<p>From the result of the analysis, it is concluded that factors contributing to ERP system implementation success are (1) top management support which includes how high the commitment, initiative, and enthusiasm of the board of directors of a company, and (2) the organization structure which takes into account of centralization, specialization and formalization inside an organization.
