Description
Summary:Drilling with narrow pressure window will cause many problem in well control and cost. To overcome this problem, managed pressured drilling have been developed. Dual Gradient drilling is one of alternative to drilling in offshore, which have narrow pressure window. Hydraulics very close related with hole cleaning and pressure control in open hole. Thus, control of hydraulics parameter is the key to gain optimum working operation.
Data for case study will give the impact of hydraulic parameters to hole cleaning and pressure control in open hole. Those are density, rheology, bore hole geometry, circulating rate and back pressure. Optimum condition that expected is circulation rate cause bottom hole pressure not lay outside the operating window, for static and dinamic condition. The operating window is region between Qmin, Qmaks, pore pressure and fracture gradient in Q vs BHP plot. Bit hydraulic optimation are held to gain the optimum circulation rate of rig's pump.
It conclude from case study that the higher the density and rheology, the wider the operating window. If use fluid with small density, BPH will smaller too. Fluid with smaller viskosity will cause hole cleaning less effective, so circulation rate shouldn't be too high, compare to fluid with higher viscosity.
