Summary: | Kinematic measurements of sea current provide current velocity that is still relative to the moving boat. Boat speed correction to obtain absolute current velocity (relative to the seabed) is needed. We use Global Positioning System (GPS) to get information about position and time for calculating boat speed. Positioning from GPS must have sufficient level of accuracy. This final project intends to analyze the reliability of Differential GPS (DGPS) Veripos in providing information about position and time that is needed in determining boat speed correction. The results show that the standard deviation of the boat speed from DGPS Veripos is ±0.024 m/s. This standard deviation is obtained with the boat speed range between 0.48 m/s and 1.66 m/s. This means that the measured current velocity must be greater than double of standard deviation or 0.048 m/s. |
