Description
Summary:The function of a dredger is to block, lift and move material from the layers that form a crust on the seafloor. As a case study for this Final Assignment, a company wants to modify it’s tin dredger that is operates in the lake in order to operate in the offshore with additional depth of dredge from 41 meters to 50 meters. As one consequence of these modifications, necessary modifications to the pontoon design and placement of components (layout) to be used in those dredgers. The aspects of this modification are specified geometry of the pontoon and stability analysis of the dredger. The first step of this modification is to define the geometry of the new pontoon and designed using Maxsurf. Then do the placement location of the various components of the dredger. The final step is an analysis of

stability by using Hydromax. Two alternative that meet the criteria for design modification to these dredger were obtained. On the first pontoon design, the width of the front part of the pontoon is smaller than the back. The advantages of the first alternative is cost effective because it does not require much modification. In the second pontoon design, pontoon width at the front is the same as of the back. The advantage of the second alternative is in the ladder down condition (52o) angle trim = 0o, GZ = 5334,5 mm, GMt = 38142,106 mm, heel angle = 12,8o, and freeboard are above 1m for the fourth corner point, causing the second pontoon alternative is better than the first design.
