Description
Summary:Unbalance occured in the shaft-rotor system is one of the causes of excessive vibration in rotating machinery. To avoid an excessive vibration, the shaft-rotor system

is usually being balanced before being operated. The balancing performance is vey often depend on the selection of vibration data being used. If the data is not properly

selected it will not produce good balance performance or even worse can cause an increase in the vibration level. A Pedestal sensitivity analysis can be used as a reference

in the selection data selection. This study will analyze the influence of pedestal sensitivity on the balancing performance.

This research consists of two test conditions, the first condition corresponds to a single shaft-rotor system, while the second condition corresponds to two shaft-rotors

connected by a flexible coupling. There are three types of experiment will be done in this research including the FRF (Frequency Response Function) test, RPM run-up experiment and balancing experiment. The Balancing experiment that will be performed in this research corresponds to one plane static balancing.

The results of this research show that the pedestal near the rotor is more sensitive than the pedestal located far away from the rotor when the excitation force occured in the rotor. Therefore, pedestal sensitivity analysis can be used as a reference to select a balancing data that will be used to obtain good balance performance.
