Description
Summary:Every orthodontic must have all knowledge about orthodontic wire’s characteristic that used in orthodontia practice. Nowadays, orthodontics decisions to choose dimension, geometry and model based only from literature, experience

and intuition he has. To ensure the characteristic of orthodontic wire as a clinical reference, a measurement device that can be used to measures for force and moment in orthodontic wire is urgently required. And by an accurate

characteristic of orthodontic wire, orthodontic treatment will become more precise and effective.

The last final project has successfully made measurement device that can be used to measures the effect of activation distance on the intensity of force and moment. Device’s testing results show that this measurement device can be used to measure force and moment produced by the spring. Result of force measurement is satisfying, but the result of moment measurement shows wide data variation that is estimated comes from error while testing the device. Based on the evaluation, this measurement device has adequate resolution and uncertainty comparable to the requirement of resolution and uncertainty to measure force and moment in orthodontic. However, some modification must be done to reduce sources of error while measuring, i.e. redesign and remanufacturing sensor, repairing calibration method for moment measurement, strengthening bracket adhesion, using auxiliary device to check perpendicularity

of spring, do more accurate pre-activation distance measurement between bracket, repair sliding mechanism and developing activation indicator. This final project focus on describes about process of redesigning, manufacturing and testing of portable measurement device that can be used to measures the effect of activation distance on the intensity of force and moment produced by orthodontic wire.
