Summary: | Sem C. Bangun. Tradition of Batak Ethnic in Contemporary Art Works (2001).
Final Project. Bandung: Study Program of Pure Art of Post-graduate of FSRD of
Institut Teknologi Bandung.
The traditional visual art of Batak is a heritage of Indonesia art-culture that does
not know the differences betweenn craft and pure art. Whereas, the contemporary
art is one that. Whereas, the contemporary art is an art that pluralistic in its nature
and conceptual, that opened widely for every possibility of creative.
In forming the concept of . creative vision, it has used descriptive method and
action study to generate the works contemporary arts. The examinations indicate
the Batak Ethnic has three principles of aesthetic; they are rumbang (correspond),
metunggung (appropriate), and mehaga (glorious and charismathic).
The concept of creative vision has found is "vision of independemsm", it is a
creativity concept that stressed on art expression with philosophic, allegories,
aesthetics values, that presented by new artistic technique. This vision is a
crystallization of three elements; they are the paradigma of art pluralism, of
philosophic of Batak aesthetic, and of technology that combined in an integrated
concept.
The "Independenism creative vision" has as its main basis the respecting of
freedom in creative process, the freedom in making expression, and alternative
aesthetics. It is a concept that gives priority to scientific understanding of subject
matter, so, it seen the past as a source of creativity but with new views and
respect. Therefore, it has used the experimental method in presenting the body of
art in cylindrical pillar form to produce alternative works. The contemporary art
works that have theirs roots in non-physical values of Batak art-culture. It is
expected that the experiments had carried out to be meaningful for development
of contemporary Indonesia Art and make contribution in welcoming the
possibilities of future art. |
