Summary: | The research area is administratively located at Ranowulu District, Bitung,

North Sulawesi and geographically located in UTM 170000-174000 mN and

735000-740000 mE (51N Zone). The aims of this research are to understand the

geological setting of Pinasungkulan and surroundings area based on field data using

scale of 1:12.500 in 4 x 5 km2 area and also to analyze the geochemistry aspects of

geothermal manifestations in order to create a model of geothermal system in the

research area.

The research area is located in the northwest of Mt. Duasudara and Mt.

Tangkoko. Based on the landscapes, the research area can be divided into Volcanic

Cone Unit, Volcanic Footslopes Unit, and Volcanic Denudational Hills Unit.

Geology of the research area is also affected by the volcanic products of Mt.

Duasudara and Mt. Tangkoko. Geological history of the research area started on the

Pleistocen, marked by the activity of Mt. Duasudara that deposited Tuff Unit,

Andesitic Lava Unit, and Lapilli Tuff Unit sequentially. Then, the volcanic activity

was shifting northeast triggering the activation of Mt. Tangkoko that produced

Pyroxene Andesitic Lava Unit in the Pleistocene. the northwest of After all of the

lithological units were deposited, the geological structures that were controlled by

the activity of East Sangihe Subduction, i. e. Pinasungkulan Normal Fault, Toka

Tembaankoka Normal Fault, and Pareng Normal Fault were formed. The faults are

formed within one period of time.

Geochemical survey was done in order to know the geothermal system model

of Pinasungkulan and surrounding area by using water geochemistry analysis.

Geothermal manifestations in the form of bicarbonate (HCO3) warm springs are

found in 5 different locations, i.e. Pinasungkulan, Serawet, Batuputih, and Pareng

area, with temperature ranging from 34-41oC and pH 6,91-7,62. The manifestations

are originated from one reservoir with temperature rising about 200-230oC at 1.256-

1.497 m depth. The heat source of the geothermal system is controlled by the activity

of Mt. Tangkoko. The geothermal system in the research area has intermediate

temperature geothermal system with 20 MWe speculated resource. |
