Summary:Plant equipment maintenance forms a certain means to maintain plant operations reliability, so that the commitment made by management in the objective to meet product shipping commitment to the customers can be achieved, with such customers as a user of the product will be satisfied. Maintenance management in seeking equipment reliability of course should utilize certain maintenance programs, one such maintenance program in PT Badak NGL is to perform maintenance work as \"outsourcing\", that is to have maintenance work handled by a third party which is able to maintain equipment with appropriate skill. One of the types of implementing outsourcing which has been done is to contract work based on a unit price for each type of work, where the contractor will be paid as per the agreed unit price once the work is completed. Therefore, contractor must be able to control workers, so that they are able to complete the jobs as much as possible with safety, good quality and within schedule as per PT Badak requirements. In order to know the productivity level of the workers, we need to measure the current productivity. Based on the result of this measurement we can establish improvement strategies and finally analyze the effectiveness of the implemented improvement strategy. Relating to this matter, the writer has made measurement of productivity level of the unit rate contractor worker for mechanical jobs in the PT Badak NGL Maintenance Department by using the Work Sampling method. That work sampling method is used as a tool to identify the real problems that happen in the field, so the analysis result from observation will provide a definitive indication for follow-up action. Consequently the work sampling method is not a problem solver. In order to simplify the productivity survey, the maintenance plant workers are divided into two categories, such as \"Productive Activities\" and \"Non-productive Activities (delay)\". The productivity activities are also divided into two parts, that is the \"direct activities\" and the \"support activities\".
