Synthesis study of MIBI is designed with tert– <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> butanol as a main precursor. Dehydration of tert–butanol by concentrated sulfuric acid was <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> conducted in temperature 75 oC to form gasseous isobutylene. This gasseous product then <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> directly passed into bromine solution in methanol. This process was occured in separated <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> flask under room temperature and yielded 91,70 % crude product in liquid form. NMR <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> spectra of this crude product shows that there are 1-bromo-2-methyl-2-methoxypropane <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> (MIBBr) and 1–bromo–2–methylpropan–2–ol in 2:3 mixture.
