Summary: | Construction projects tend to have increased in volume and complexity in line with the development in civil engineering and architecture. These conditions lead to increased risk of the project failure given the characteristics of the construction projects that are fragmented (fragmented industry). Improving in coordination and integration at each process and parties involved in the project is considered as one the ways that can resolve the problems. The recent developments in information and communication technology have provided an opportunity to increase the coordination and integration of the process as well as parties involved in the project. One is through the utilization of Management Information Systems (MIS). This Final Project aims to identify the potential use of management information systems in the construction project with JICA-Building Construction Project (part of the Development Project of ITB phase III) as a case study. The potential use is associated with the needs of information of owner’s representation organization, PIU (Project Implementation Unit), as the main user of the information systems that will be applied, business process of the organization, as well as supporting infrastructure readiness in general. From the results of the identification of information needs through interviews and analysis of business process in PIU, it is clear that information plays an important roles in the management of project implementation. In the business process activities analysis, it is obviously seen that the output of the activities depend on the input of information. In regards to infrastructure readiness, technically, management information systems can be easily applied to this project because the necessary infrastructure elements (human, hardware, software, and networks) have been available on the project environment. Therefore, management information systems is very potential to be utilized to manage information on JICA-Building Construction Project as the supporting systems that allow easier access to information for better, faster, and more precise decision making. |
