By applying the method of characteristics on Greenshield model <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> we can analyze traffic density on a particular road segment which effected by the <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> red light, so that we can determine the period of green light in order to have a queue <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> with a certain length can pass through the traffic light. Furthermore, these results <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> will be compared with ITS (Intelligent Transportation System). Similar model is <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> applied to study branching road problems (exit-entrance) and it turns out several <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> criteria for the propagation of a high traffic density which can exceed road capcity.
