Summary: | In this thesis calculations have been carried out on the height of significant ocean waves (Hs) and their period (Ts) caused by the storm in the eastern Indian Ocean region in the period of 2000-2011 by using the empirical method of Hasselmann, SPM84 (Shore Protection Manual), Young88, and FQS (Front Quadrant Simulation). The calculation results of the four methods are then compared to the results of the Wavewatch model and Beaufort method.

Hs height of the calculation results of the four methods above is respectively 1,6 – 13,3m (Hasselmann), 5,5 – 12,3 m (SPM84), 1.5 - 19.5 m (Young88), and 0,9 – 20,74m (FQS). The respective value of each Ts is 4,9 – 10,9 seconds for Hasselmann, 6,4 – 12,9 seconds (SPM84), 6,4 – 12,8 seconds (Young88), and 3,9 – 16,9 seconds (FQS).

Young88 method is the method with the smallest relative error (38%) in comparison with the results of Wavewatch model, followed by SPM84 (40%), FQS (42%), and Hasselmann (44%). |
